Cancer and Obesity – No Suprise Here
January 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment
There was recently a new study published in Cancer that showed a link between obesity and ovarian cancer. I’m sure you are like me in that you were not surprised to hear this news. This study followed women between the ages of 50-71 for 7 years (94,000 women in total). What was really interesting is that the researchers also linked previously being obese as leading to an increased risk for ovarian cancer as well.
Cancer is a huge problem. While overlooked by mainstream medicine….nutrition can play a very powerful role in the treatment and prevention of cancer. I”m not talking about magical root extracts from Asia either. I’m talking about straight forward solid nutrition (like Naked Nutrition). Medicine just isn’t exploring the efficacy of nutrition as a treatment. I don’t mean to sound like a cynic (although I am a little in this area) but the money is in drugs and not diet.
Next week I’ll tell you guys a story about brain cancer and low carb diets…it is fascinating and sad.
How To Get 6 Pack Abs – Free Download

“Do I Get Six Pack Abs?” This is a very common question. Most will go about their 6 Pack journey by doing endless sets and reps of crunches.
The funny thing is….this is the least effective way to develop your 6 Pack.
To help people achieve a sleek midsection I got my buddies Alwyn Cosgrove and Tom Gifford (remember him from this picture) to put together an ebook showing people how to get abs the right way.
The book is 50 pages long, contains 6 abs workouts like you’ve never seen (no crunches), including pictures and descriptions of all the exercises.
We were going to sell it for $29 but decided to give it away for free hoping that if you like the book you’d consider buying Warp Speed Fat Loss next time you decided that you needed to lose weight(hey…I’m just being honest).
To Download the ebook just right click the link below and save.
Coffee & Caffeine – The Good News
January 30, 2009 | 14 Comments
It seems like coffee has a bad publicist. It is constantly getting slandered and put down while the masses hold up green tea as the be all end all of hot delicious beverages (I’m not putting down green tea – I love it). Today I just wanted to highlight some of the ways our good friend Java (and its partner in crime caffeine) improves our health and lives.

- Research from Harvard shows that increased coffee consumption and greatly reduce your risk for type two diabetes
- The antioxidants in coffee can reduce inflammation and risk for heart disease
- The antioxidants in coffee have been shown to reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol (the ‘bad’ cholesterol)
- Caffeine increase dopamine levels which makes you sharper and more alert
- Caffeine increases brain activity [and reduces morning fog <--that's not a scientific finding just my observation
] - Many people shy away from regular coffee and opt for decaf thinking they are making a healthier choice but decaf coffee has significantly lower levels of antioxidants.
- Caffeine has been shown to accelerate your body’s ability to repair blood vessel walls (that’s cool).
- Coffee has been shown to reduce rick for suicide.
I bet you didn’t know that all that good stuff came from drinking coffee huh? One quick word of warning though, regarding coffee and exercise. Caffeine can reduce the blood flow to your heart during exercise so if you have heart problems skip the Java before your workout.
If you’re wondering….I drink my coffee black.
How to you take yours?
What do you think about coffee? Good/Bad?
How much do you drink?
I’d love to hear you input.
Naked Nutrition Approach

How do you go about losing weight? Should you count calories? Should you just focus on portions? How to you know what is right for you?
These are all very common questions that I get from people regarding their diet and nutrition. Fortunately what you ‘count’ – portions, grams, calories – when you are dieting is NOT a guessing game. Instead it is best when your diet specificity is chosen depending on what you are currently doing with your diet and then you progress from there.
Diet progression is the single most overlook aspect of fat loss nutrition.
I cover it in great detail in this video showing you exactly how to progress on your diet.
This concept is central to the Naked Nutrition Approach. In fact it is the Naked Nutrition Approach. A couple months ago I spoke on this topic for the first time and revealed the secrets and keys that will allow you to stop banging your head against the wall when dieting.
I have formatted the video in two different ways for you.
You can click the image below and watch it online (a new window will open)
Or you can download it below. It is in an iPod friendly format so you watch it on your computer or on your iPod/iPhone.
The one problem with the video is that the audio quality is not the best. I am very sorry about this.
5 Lessons YOU can learn from The Biggest Loser
January 28, 2009 | 4 Comments

Whether you are a fan of The Biggest Loser or not, there are valuable lessons that everyone should take from the show when it comes to losing weight.
1. ANYONE can lose weight. The show has featured almost every kind of overweight person that exists. Young people, old people, people with physical issues, people with thyroid problems, people that have been obese all of their lives, etc… Every season, the show demonstrates that all of these people can and do lose weight.
- LESSON 1: Stop making excuses, and stop thinking that you just cant do it. This show is proof that anyone can lose weight. It doesn’t matter what your background is, how overweight you might be, or if you have a “Thyroid problem.” Anyone can lose weight when you are disciplined and follow a good plan. Anyone!
2. Accountability works! When millions of people are watching each week, and these contestants know that teammates, and family members are counting on them, they get the job done for the most part.
- LESSON 2: When you are trying to lose weight, make yourself accountable to others. It will keep you going even in the toughest times.
3. Setting short term fat loss goals is key to long term success. Each week, these contestants focus on losing a certain amount of weight for the week. They are not focusing on the big number, the end goal all of the time, rather they focus on weekly goals. This keeps them motivated and successful. After a few months, large amounts of weight are lost and the big goal is closer.
- LESSON 3: Set short term goals as well as long term goals. Focus on working on your short term goals each week instead of worrying about the long term goal only. Weight loss is much easier this way.
4. Social Support works and works well. One of the reasons I believe the people on that show do so well, is because of the social support they receive from their families, partners and even their opponents. If you are on a weight loss mission, surround yourself with others that are going to support you.
- LESSON 4: Find people that are in the same situation you are in and “team up” with them. Supporting and pushing one another will pay high dividends in the end.
5. Hard work pays off! If you ever watch the show, you see these people working their butts off (literally.) Although I don’t always agree with the exercises the trainers have the people do, they do push them and work them extremely hard. They don’t give them a lot of room to slack off and make excuses. When an untrained, 400 plus pound person is working at the highest level for over an hour, it should tell you that most people can push themselves a lot harder than they actually do.
- LESSON 5: If you are serious about losing weight, hire an expert to push you. In most cases, people cannot push themselves hard enough to see outstanding results. In other words, they need help. Trainers can give you not only good programs, but can also push you to your limits and get faster results.
Again, whether you are a fan of the show or not, there are valuable lessons to be learned. It is important to see through the production and “drama” and learn what you can from a show like this. Remember that if people can lose huge amounts of weight, season after season, there is NO reason why you cant either. Find some help, gather some resources and get it done.
