Video Exercise – Dumbbell Swings for Fat Loss

People ask me all of the time what exercises can be done, in the gym or at home, that give you a good “bang for your buck.” In other words, which exercises are the most effective and most time efficient for losing fat?
To be an effective fat burning exercise, you need to involve the whole body as much as you can…training multiple muscle groups all at once. You want to hit the big muscle groups, such as the glutes, upper and lower back, shoulders, and upper legs. It is also necessary to bring in a “cardio” component if possible.
There are a lot of exercises out there that cover the above mentioned list, but few can be done in the gym and in the comfort of your own home.
Dumbbell swings are a great exercise that can be done in the gym or at home and are extremely effective for fat burning.
Try these with a 10-20 pound dumbbell. I use them to warm-up and also at the end of my training sessions. However, when done correctly, they can be a training session in itself.
My recommendation is to start with 5 circuits of 20 reps. 5 reps with two hands, 5 reps with the right, 5 reps with the left, and finish off with another 5 reps with both hands.
Give yourself about 30 seconds to a minute between sets and then repeat. You can work your way up to 5 circuits in no time.
Besides being great for fat burning, the dumbbell swing works the core, shoulders, glutes, and upper legs. It is a total exercise!
Watch the video and let me know what you think.

Got something to say?

I am intrigued with the idea of using this as a warm-up. I plan to try it soon. I would have liked to see a little more of your legs to see how much you bend your knees. (yeah, I’m kind of a form geek).
